J.Q. Dickinson Salt-Works is run by a family of seventh-generation salt-makers. They produce small-batch finishing salt in West Virginia. It is harvested from the Iapetus Ocean, an ancient sea, older than the Atlantic, that is located deep under the Appalachian Mountains. Dickinson Salt is the only salt in Northern America made from this type of source.

Their salt making is a unique and innovative process, completed by hand without the use of big machinery and additives. No heavy metals, such as mercury, arsenic or lead, are present — many of which may be found in other sea salts.
